Temple’s starting right tackle, Dion Dawkins, suffered a broken foot against Louisville on Saturday and is probably lost for the season.

“I think he’ll be out for the rest of the year,” coach Matt Rhule said.

The Owls will probably replace him in the lineup with Cody Booth. Booth, who had started at left tackle earlier in the season, filled in Saturday. However, he was unable to practice much last week due to a concussion.

QB platoon unlikely

Rhule said that he will watch film of junior quarterback Connor Reilly, who started, and freshman P.J. Walker, who came into the game in the second quarter – but he sounded as if he was going to go with Walker as the starter heading into Friday’s game at Cincinnati.

“Probably not,” Rhule said when asked if he would platoon the two. “With the way our offense is, the quarterback is going to have to run. With Connor Reilly being limited, it looked like P.J. was the one. I think we’ll have one starting quarterback and move forward with him.”

Sacks for young linemen

Both of the Owls sacks on Saturday came from underclassmen. Sophomore Matt Ioannidis dropped backup Will Gardner for a 5-yard loss in the fourth quarter. Ioannidis leads the Owls with three sacks on the season. Freshman Averee Robinson recorded the first of his career, dropping Teddy Bridgewater for a 7-yard loss earlier in the fourth.
